Coats/sunhats
Please ensure that your child always comes into school dressed appropriately for the wonderfully versatile English weather.  This will mean coats as the weather gets colder, but could still include sunhats and sun-cream as appropriate.

Water bottles
Please provide your child with a clearly named water bottle every day. This is as well as a drink in their lunch box, if they are having a packed lunch.

PE
We have PE two times during the school week - on Monday and Thursday. Sometimes it may be necessary to change our timetable, so all children must have their PE kit in school every day to ensure that they can participate. We will continue to do PE outside once a week so please provide your child with appropriate clothing eg: tracksuit and trainers.

Children need to have earrings covered by micropore tape or removed and long hair must be tied back. Please also ensure that children have their name in each part of their kit! If your child is unable to take part in PE due to illness or injury, please notify me in writing including the reason for non-participation.

Please have your child's name in all of their clothes and belongings!

Reading
Children are expected to read 5 times a week and record it in their reading records. If your child reads 5 times a week, they are rewarded with 5 minutes extra play and a chance for our class to win the reading trophy each week.  Year 5 children can complete the reading record independently, but an adult comment is required at least once a week. This is incredibly important for all children, to support their learning and expand their vocabulary.  Children will be able to change their books when they have completed them.

Spellings
Spellings will be set and given out on a Monday and tested on Fridays.  The weekly spellings will follow a spelling rule/pattern to support you child in learning them.  There will also be a short task to be completed at home in their yellow books, in relation to the spellings, that should support their learning.  Please ensure that their yellow spelling books are in school each Monday and Friday.

Homework

Homework will be set on a Friday and is due in on the following Wednesday. There will be English and maths work set each week. Children also have access to TTRS (Times table rock stars) and Reading Eggs and are encouraged to use these resources regularly to maintain fluency.

 Handwriting

These are the letter formations we use at Greenmeadow.

Thank you for your continued support, and we're looking forward to a great year!
